What is Renaturing?

We are working at the body level, with the ancient nervous system pathways, structures, and responses.  We work with the animal that is you.

Renaturing is about establishing and holding a container for your body to (in effect) heal itself.

I act as a guide, helping you to be curious and stay on the path- avoiding the traps and pitfalls of working with deep, dark experiences.

We create new neural pathways and more nervous system capacity, so that you can move forward in ways that feel more positive and free.

Renaturing works on a different level than language.

We work low and slow, tailored to your nervous system, going back and forth between hard feelings and experiences and more comfortable ones.

What we do together is explore; we get curious and pay attention to all sorts of sensations, emotions, body movements, and images, intentionally creating a personalized language for your body’s experience.

An optional (virtual) hands-on part of Renaturing isolates the container, allowing for focused work.

Sometimes we do spend time talking about what happened and our thoughts about it.  But talking’s not the most important part of what we do together.

What can come of Renaturing?

We increase happiness, joy, comfort, and well-being.

We work with trauma by resolving how the body is holding these experiences, so things like hypervigilance, anxiety, insomnia, and various physical symptoms can potentially ease and eventually become a thing of the past.

There are other possibilities. MS, Parkinson’s, Functional Neurological Disorder, OCD, Bipolar, ADHD… Sometimes, we can make a big difference together.  Along with your other providers, of course.

I think of the work of Renaturing as seeing ourselves as part of the natural world, not separate from it.

We go through cycles and seasons. We respond to our environment. With time and practice, we can learn from our instinctive reactions rather than reflexively shutting them down.

My motto is “Trust Your True Nature” because, underneath your coping strategies, trauma patterns, and dysfunctional socialization, you have a beautifully effective nervous system that is always providing you with valuable information about what you need.

What does this work feel like?

I often ask for “testimonials” from those who have worked with me.  I have gotten feedback like:

“The palpability of your focused attention is fucking amazing.”

“It’s like what it feels like to sit with someone who is really focused on you, and having that person sitting behind you and leaning back against them.”

“When you watch modern dancers in a pair, where one person does something, they would crash to the ground if the other person wasn’t right there to hold/catch them.  Or there’s one dancer just flinging themselves about, and the other dancer is right there, so they don’t have to worry about the things they are doing, because they will be caught and supported.”
