My work with humans in this unsettling world brings me face to face with how much trauma is installed in our bodies by the greater circumstances.
I have said for years that society/culture/our training is trauma-inducing. And that so much of our personal work together is to work with that trauma. It’s tough to “resolve” it while it’s still going on.
But we can create a more resilient system.
A more resilient personal nervous system, and a more resilient system of humans- a community of resilience, if you will.
Individually, my work with folx is first and foremost in increasing capacity to be and stay embodied, and secondarily to resolve past traumas that are held in the body.
Collectively, my work is to create and hold a container for the exact same work to be done.
Both hold deep medicine. Neither is exclusive of the other. And one may appeal more to you.
I had an interesting conversation yesterday with the humans in the final meeting of this go-round of the Climate Collapse Resilience group.
Turns out I’m not the only one who is seeing a greater collapse going on.
OK, that makes it sound like it hasn’t been a movement for years, if not decades.
However, the climate, and human-caused climate change, have been my personal focus for at least 20 years. This stems from my lifelong interest (communion?) in the natural world, animals, ecosystems, etc. That investment means that as climate change has turned to collapse, that’s what I have spent the most time reading and thinking about.
But that’s not all it is, is it?
We are watching more than the climate collapse. Ecosystems and wild populations of animals, plants, and fungi are collapsing, too.
But so are human constructs. Governments, economies, cultures, and societies. Mass migrations (re: refugee populations) are indications of resource crises. It’s a pretty bleak picture.
And while I still tend to pay more attention to the collapse of the natural world, I can no longer pretend it’s separate.
There are a lot of us who see it, who feel it.
And I no longer want to push out those who see the greater collapse.
