Walk With Me is an ongoing video series where I invite you to join me while I take some time to check in with myself. It’s all spontaneous, just like Somatic Experiencing — I like to slow down and see where my mind and body take me. I hope you enjoy watching the video or reading the transcript below, and thanks for spending a moment of your day with me.
Hi. I have been inside too much today, and I thought I’d go outside and share my outside here and see what I end up talking about. So I’m gonna turn around the camera, and I’m gonna just share my backyard, I guess.
I have my beehive and my little rose garden that I’ve just put together. And so I come out here when I need a break, when I need a pause. And just about every day, I come out and sit. But first I walk. So I walk my labyrinth.
And as I walk my labyrinth, I think about whatever is up for me right now. What is up for me is… well, let me see. First, I have a headache, and I’m not used to having headaches anymore, so it’s getting to me. And I’m also well-practiced at having headaches, so I can get over it.
I’ve been working with some amazing people today. This is the first chance I get to see how the hives are actually doing, and then I take my first turn, and I just had a bee buzz off of my head because I was on the flight path. Just smacked my head and continued on.
Yeah. The people that I’ve been working with,I worked with a new person today who was really cool, and I was able to…it just felt right. Like, it felt really good. She was a referral from another client, and it was just lovely.
I get a lot of referrals, and I deeply appreciate the referrals because I think that there’s probably, like, a slightly greater chance that people through referrals will be a good fit. And so I get kind of happy about that. So the person today seemed like a really good fit.
And, you know, that was one new appointment, and we don’t know for sure. I always kind of suggest that people do one appointment and then four more appointments, and we assess, because, I don’t know about you, but I know that I’m always on my best behavior in a first appointment, and I’m always kind of excited to be here.
I have to go back a second. Let me see if I can find the light. Where is she? See if I can find her. Can you see her? She’s fucking amazing. Look at her compared to my finger. I’m right next to her. My finger is right next to her. She’s really just that big.
Yeah. So I’m on my best behavior. I’m excited to like somebody new and get along with them. And my experience is that most people are like that. And so I always want to work a couple more times–well, in my case, four more times–with somebody before we decide if we want to work a lot longer together. And in that case, we start to think about what else to do.
I am pausing because I have a bee buzzing around me like crazy. I prefer not to get stung. Just see, I don’t know what I smell like, but the bee thinks I smell good or bad, one or the other, but yeah.
So sitting here, not just the bee that is messing around with me, but I can hear all the bees at those three hives, and I can actually smell the wax and the honey a little bit that they’re making, which is always pretty fun to me. Yay. The bee flew away. I did not get stung.
Woohoo. I just get enchanted sitting here. It’s pretty great. I mostly don’t like my backyard. Harry used to not like my backyard. But now I have become…I’ve made it something. I’ve got those hives. I’ve got roses behind the hives.
You can see the pink roses and then, oh, maybe you can see a white rose up in that between the two left hives. Hopefully next year that rose garden is going to be stunning. Hopefully. And I’ll be able to see it right out of my office window. So I’m gonna sit here for another few minutes. But yeah, I thought I’d show you my backyard and how I take some time for me.
